I live in Gatley, I’m a wife, mum to two girls and have been a nurse since I was 19 years old. My career, mostly in critical care has taught me many things…fundamentally that I love meeting and dealing with people from all walks of life…and that life can be very short. Hence, when I saw a local Facebook post for ‘I Wish I’d tried’ ladies dodgeball I jumped at the chance to try something new!
I’ve not played a team sport since I was at school and soon found that I really enjoyed the camaraderie and fun that playing dodgeball brought.
Fast forward 18 months and I’m still loving playing and have made firm friendships through the team. I’ve also been introduced to many lovely members of the wider dodgeball community.
Linzi McCoy and I recently completed our level 2 dodgeball coaching qualification which coincided with the club becoming self sufficient. So I have now taken over coaching alongside Linzi, who has been a good friend for several years.
It’s a steep learning curve, but we are passionate about the club and the sport. We have great members who are incredibly supportive and we couldn’t be doing this without them!
I have lived in the Cheadle / Heald Green area all my life, I’m married and have a daughter who also loves dodgeball. I work as an accounts manager for a small company in Hazel Grove and have been there for 12 years.
I have known Emma Milser for several years and when she suggested trying dodgeball I thought ‘why not’ it would be a great chance to try something new and meet new people. It’s been a long time since I’ve played a team sport like this and I really enjoyed it, the fun of playing dodgeball was really refreshing. I’ve now played for 18 months and have made many friendships, both on the team and across British Dodgeball, and everyone is very supportive.
Along with Emma, I recently completed my level 2 dodgeball coaching qualification just as our club became self sufficient, so we have now taken over the coaching. It’s an exciting new era for the club which we are really looking forward to, and the support of our members drives us forward.
I work in retail and manage my own store in Wilmslow.
Growing up I was always sporty playing football and tennis. Living near Lyme Park and a stone’s throw from the peak district I try to get out walking and bike riding as often as possible.
I joined Cheadle and Gatley Griffins just as the club was becoming independent after a friend saw the club advertised on social media. I’d never heard of dodgeball before and was a total novice but everyone was so lovely, welcoming and patient that I fell in love with it and never left.
As you get to understand the game better and watch more experienced teams you start to understand there is a greater tactical, almost choreographed, side of the game that can be incredibly exciting to watch. Which has lead me to take my level 2 coaching badge in dodgeball and soon my level 3.
The wonderful thing about this club is that we are all learning together – we go to matches and tournaments; learning new things all the time then we can’t wait to get back to training to share everything we’ve learnt with the others. As a result, there is always a buzz at training as we evolve and grow the team which is only limited by our own imagination.
Also it’s cheaper than therapy!
My whole life has been in sport, I started as a gymnast, then trampolinist, netballer, hockey player and more recently a dodgeballer. I have been teaching PE for 11 years now and spent the last 7 years at a wonderful school in Cheadle Hulme, which is where I heard about the club, as a colleague’s wife invited me to join her at a session and we were both immediately hooked!
Within my time teaching, the one sport that all the kids beg for is dodgeball, from the teenagers to the reception students, everyone loves it and I have always wanted to give it a go. I have been at the club for 14 months and I just love how much fun we have and how inclusive a sport it is. Not to mention how much of a lovely bunch of ladies we have at the club, which is what really makes it for me. I have recently completed my Level 2 coaching qualification and I am really looking forward to working alongside Emma and Linzi to support and help develop our club.
